Every Independence Day since 2019 Old Parish Preservation Volunteers have hosted a reading of Frederick Douglass' 1852 July 4 speech. Volunteers each read a paragraph of the speech as the audience follows along at the gravesite of Rev. Edwin Thompson a fellow abolitionist and colleague of Douglass'.
