Alice Mabel Sutherland Kenney (1850-1876)
In the farthest corner of the Old Parish Cemetery, at the base of the hill, stands a lone gravestone. It belongs to Alice M. Kenney, about whom little is known.
Alice Mabel Sutherland was born on December 25, 1850 in Foxboro. She married George F. Kenney on July 21, 1872 in Medway. Kenney had been born on February 5, 1847 in Walpole. The couple came to the newly incorporated town of Norwood to live. George Kenney was a machinist.

Only a few years later, Alice Kenney died at the age of 26. Records state only that the cause of death was “disease of the nervous system.”
George F. Kenney interred his wife in Old Parish Cemetery. The simple stone reads:
Alice M.
wife of
George F. Kenney
Born
Dec. 25, 1850
Died
Dec. 19, 1876
At some point thereafter, George Kenney left town. He remarried in 1884.
Today, reset and cleaned to a brilliant white, Alice M. Sutherland Kenney’s stone still stands.

beautiful restoration..... a sad end to such a young life
