Dexter & Martha Dean; Early South Dedham Farmers

Dexter Dean (1800-1852)

Martha W. Vincent Dean (1804-1881)

 

Dexter Dean was born on August 13, 1800. He was the son of Samuel H. Dean and his wife, Deborah Lewis Dean.

 

A farmer like his own father, Dexter Dean married Martha W. Vincent on October 23, 1821 when he was 21 and Martha was 17.

Together they had six children: Martha B., who married Alvin Ellis; Fanny G., who married James Pond; Dean, who died in infancy; George V., who married Mary Gay; Caroline, who married Isaiah Merrifield; and Samuel D., who married Abby Tapley and later Georgianna Carpenter.

 

Dexter Dean died on February 12, 1852 of palsy and Martha Vincent Dean passed away on February 7, 1881 of old age and paralysis. She was 77.

 

Their marble stone stands in lot 66 alongside Dexter Dean’s parents.
